Keyboard Shortcuts#

A complete reference of keyboard shortcuts in FoldNotes. On iPad with a hardware keyboard, most editing and formatting shortcuts are available. On iPhone, use the keyboard toolbar and menus.

Editing#

Shortcut Action macOS iOS
Cmd+Z Undo
Cmd+Shift+Z Redo
Cmd+X Cut
Cmd+C Copy
Cmd+V Paste
Cmd+A Select All
Tab or Ctrl+Cmd+Right Arrow Indent paragraph
Shift+Tab or Ctrl+Cmd+Left Arrow Outdent paragraph
Ctrl+Cmd+Up Arrow Move Row Up — the line with everything under it
Ctrl+Cmd+Down Arrow Move Row Down
Cmd+\ Move To… — pick a heading (type - to pick any row) and move the rows there

Moving rows

Ctrl+Cmd+Up / Down move the line at the cursor, or every line in the selection, one row at a time, taking everything indented under it along. A heading moves with its whole section and swaps places with the next section at the same level — its level never changes, and it stays inside its parent section. A list item or indented line takes its level from where it lands: moving onto an expanded row makes it that row's first child. A plain paragraph keeps its level. Tasks keep their identity, folded rows stay folded, and Cmd+Z undoes each move.

Move To… (Cmd+) lists the note's headings; type to narrow the list, or start with - to search every row. The rows become the first thing under the one you pick (a folded heading opens to take them). Return moves the cursor with them; Control-Return sends them and leaves the cursor where it was. A heading you move becomes one level below the heading you pick, along with the headings inside it.

In a Bike file every row, headings included, moves the way it does in Bike, and a heading's level changes to match where it lands. Markdown can't place a row everywhere Bike can (for example, above a heading's own rows once it has sub-headings), so now and then a row moves on to the next spot it can go.

Copying a folded document

Copy (Cmd+C) and Cut (Cmd+X) are fold‑aware: they include any folded sections inside the selection. So Cmd+A then Cmd+C copies the entire note — folded content and all — without you having to unfold first.

Block types on macOS

On the Mac, type the Markdown prefix directly — - for a list item, 1. for an ordered list, - [ ] for a task, > for a quote — or use the / command palette. (Cmd+Shift+T opens the table editor and Cmd+Shift+O opens a collection on macOS, so the block-type chords are iOS-only.)

Folding & Hoist#

On macOS and iPad with a hardware keyboard, every fold command has its own shortcut. On iPhone, the same commands are available in the Fold submenu of the editor's … menu (no shortcuts required).

Row Attributes (⌥⌘A) is scoped to Bike files

This opens the Row Attributes editor for setting a row's priority, due date, or custom attributes, and works only while you're editing a Bike file — it does nothing in an ordinary note. On a task line you can also just type /; on any other row, type / and choose Row Attributes…. (On iOS the shortcut needs a hardware keyboard.) Note this is a different key from Bike's own row‑attributes panel, which is ⌘⇧A.

Cmd+Shift+T Open / focus the table editor sheet for the current table

Type / after whitespace or at the start of a line to open the command palette — a context-aware menu for inserting formatting, dates, links, and task metadata. See Editor Commands for the full list of available commands and how the palette behaves.
